Some jobs feel like holidays that occasionally interrupt themselves with a bit of work. The seaside capsule was one of those - a little white town stacked on a hillside, one blue swimming pool, and a suitcase of summer clothes in Elsie's size.
Call time was early to catch the soft light, which meant Elsie did her best modelling before most of the town was awake. Standing on the rooftop terrace with her arms stretched out, ordering the sea to "look at all my houses" - that's the frame the client chose for the opening page, and honestly, fair enough.
We've learned that travel shoots run on snacks and naps, in that order. Elsie has learned that hotel breakfasts may include unlimited tiny croissants, and that this is the single greatest discovery of her career so far.
Work wrapped by noon each day, and the afternoons belonged to the pool. She sat on the edge for a solid hour on the last day, feet in the water, watching her reflection wobble. When we asked what she was thinking about, she said, "Next summer." Us too, Elsie. Us too.
